Michael Kendall started this season sooner than most and faster than most. An encouraging first race meeting at Stratford in the new car has boosted morale in the Kendall camp.
“The new car was fast straight out of the box, said a confident Kendall, we are back to a fairly standard Terminator chassis but it’s the go fast version compared to the cars we ran last season”.
The Esslinger powerplant is the same motor as the team ran last year, freshened for what Kendall hopes will be a much better year, as far as results go, than last seasons performance.
“We started last season with an experimental chassis that I struggled with early on before getting out of it and then we ran Brett Small’s standard Terminator chassis which was an improvement but still not really up to the task.”
“This new chassis is a huge, huge improvement on any of the previous cars we have run, I’m fitter, 10kgs lighter, training hard and really looking forward to some good results this season”.
The new improved Kendall is focused on a successful Springs National Championship Series, a top result in the 50 lapper and putting the NZ number 1 back on his car again at Powerbuilt Speedway in Christchurch. Selection for the prestigious 6 man Kiwi team to take on the USA team in the International Midget Test race series in January '07 is also high on his list of priorities.
It all sounds like a big ask but for the multiple NZ Champion he’s done it all before and it may prove harder than some of the younger drivers think to catch the experienced Kendall if he’s on top form at Western Springs this season.
