YOUNG GUNS TAKE ON THE MASTERS
4 Jan 2006

Last nights racing was the final chance to impress the selectors for inclusion in the team to take on and the in the International Midget World Series. The series starts later this month at Western Springs Speedway in Auckland on the 19th and 21st January and moves south to Powerbuilt Speedway in Christchurch for the 26th and 28th January.

Top points scorer in the Springs National Championship series Steven Currie was chosen as one of three younger drivers who will make up one of the two NZ teams to race in the twelve lap test series races. Four teams of three drivers from the USA, Australia and the two NZ teams will race for the test series points over the four nights of racing.

Current New Zealand Champion, Carl Worboys, who has driven his Gaerte powered Beast chassis to two feature wins this season and has been on form all season, was a obvious selection choice.

Young midget driver Brad Mosen may not have had much to smile about last night after electrical problems dogged his team all night. After failing to complete one lap of a race Mosen was feeling pretty desperate. But his selection for the team as one of the “young guns” gave him cause to celebrate.

Shaun Insley has been consistently quick for this first part of the race season and after a second place in the feature last night secured his spot on the masters team.

Veteran racer Graham Standring has driven his way into the team with consistent results in the heats and features at Western Springs during the early part of the season.

One of the hardest working drivers in the National series, Te Awamutu local Tony Fabish, is probably a surprise inclusion for some fans but he has consistently shown form all season and sits in 6th place on the adjusted National series points table.
