Current NZ Midget Champion Shane Alach won the 2010 North Island Midget Championships at Western Springs on Saturday night, in front of another great crowd. Alach was the top qualifier after the heats, which were hotly contested during the night. He led all twenty-five laps of the feature race, holding off defending North Island Champion Michael Pickens, and Waikato Midget young gun Michael Brunt for his fourth straight win of the season at The Springs. Jeremy Halpin won his first ever Sprintcar feature, ahead of Western Springs Track Championship points leader Ryan O'Connor, and Hans Boere. The race was marred by a huge second lap crash between Alan Wakeling and Mark Browne. Both were ok, but their cars were badly damaged. An entertaining TQ feature was won by Shane O'Connor from Christchurch's Ricky Brett, and Auckland's Gina Harris. It was O'Connor's fourth TQ feature win of the season, with the former national Champion closing the gap to TQ Track Championship points leader Ross Linklater going into the final night of the season on March 6.
