Springs Speedway National Series Round 3 (29 November 2008)

The TQs enjoyed a night of fast-paced, close, incident-free action at the Springs in their third round of the National Series and the Heritage Shield feature race. With a field of 25 cars, including drivers James Tollison (24B) and Mark Alexander (9B) from Napier, the three heats and feature produced some great results.

The PDL sponsored 56 car driven by Ross Linklater showed fast and consistent performances over the two Top 12 heat races and the feature, with a 2nd and 3rd in the heats and 2nd place in the feature, with Team Alkiris driver Paul LeCren (14) taking 1st place and Chris Gwilliam (98) in the New World Kerikeri car claiming 3rd place, earning him his third podium finish for the season. The three drivers had been engaged in a three-way battle during the entirety of the race, switching positions numerous times before the chequered dropped.

LeCren and Gwilliam had also showed considerable pace over the night, with Gwilliam breaking away from the field in Race 1 to pocket a win and LeCren in the top 4 of Race 3. Once again these drivers showed the outstanding level of talent and ability of not just one, but numerous drivers within the class. LeCren’s feature win meant he also took the honours of winning the Heritage Shield for a second consecutive season.

Also worthy of mention was the performance shown by our visiting Napier drivers, who with one heat race to dial in proved worthy competitors for our home track drivers. Well done to James Tollison for his 2nd place finish in Race 2 and 5th in the feature. We’ll look forward to seeing you here again for New Zealand Championship!
