The first 30 lap international feature held at Western Springs was won by US legend BobTatersall in 1968. Since then the International 30 lap trophy has been fiercely fought for.
Michael Pickens won the 30 lap World Derby last year topping an all Kiwi podium ahead of team drivers Carl Worboys and Brad Mosen.
American team captain Scott Hatton returns this year to try to repeat his 2005 30 lap victory. A hard won battle in an incident filled race at Huntly speedway when speedway drivers and fans were forced to take racing out of Auckland during a season plagued by noise issues.
Also returning to for the upcoming International season is dirt track superstar Dave Darland who has won the World 30 lap race twice in two consecutive years at Western Springs.
The World 30 Lap feature is one every Midget driver wants to win and although the first place cup is a coveted addition to any drivers trophy case the prize money is also well worth driving for.
The 30 lap race is the first in a 6 race meeting International series with a total of more than $190,000 in prize money up for grabs over the 3 weekend series.
